The new season picks after Dexter's step-sister Deb discovered his dark secret in the Season 6 finale. The first two minutes of the premiere kick off right where Season 6 ended, revealing how Dexter tries to talk himself out of situation to Deb and what he'll do when she starts to call the station.
Before this new footage, "Dexter" has been releasing a steady stream of promo videos hyping up its new season. In early July, the network released a 15-second sneak peek that redefined the term "teaser trailer" by flashing images from the new season in rapid succession. Other promos have featured Deb and Dexter in bed (separately) having nightmares about Deb's discovery.
Season 7 of "Dexter" will be the series' penultimate season. "Dexter" executive producer Sara Colleton confirmed in an interview with TV Guide that Season 8 will "definitely" be the series' last.
